In the sitout where old men hang out
Before the temple gate
Through the banyans, sunlight must abate
Beneath the highway overbridge is where
Some cardboard houses lay
Hoping to find a place below the day
Six-storey terraced tong-laus stand
No taller than invisible hands
The stylish wind would sweep aside
The roofs that try to hold the sky
In the street where young ones stroll about
Reflecting glittering light
From accessories shops with their delights
In the house with a new English name
A coffee perfume floats
As bitterness is burned off like it's bloat
Six-storey terraced tong-laus stand
No taller than invisible hands
The stylish wind would sweep aside
The roofs that try to hold the sky
An outworn iron folding gate stays closed
To flashlights and itself
It won't reopen to expose its shelves
Its specious replicas will then be sold
Wherein the time could freeze
While the banyan stands still in the breeze
Six-storey terraced tong-laus stand
No taller than invisible hands
The stylish wind would sweep aside
The roofs that try to hold the sky
